Joe Guzman is the Director of Percussion at Donna High School.  His responsibilities include the director of the front ensemble during marching season as well as marching and concert percussion ensembles.  During his time at the hgih school he has helped earn numerous percussion awards ranging from best overall ensemble and best general effect.  He also helped the Donna High School indoor percussion ensemble excel throughout their indoor season.  In addition to his high school duties, Mr. Guzman is the percussion director at Veterans Middle School Where his percussion studio will hold anywhere from 25-30 students.  He has had students make the Region 28 All-Valley Middle School Band every year he has taught there.

During the spring semester he has been the Percussion Coordinator for the Region 28 Middle School Percussion sections.  The duties that are entailed with this are to assign parts, assign instruments, work sectionals with the percussionists and anything else that has to deal with percussion.  He has also consistantly been asled to be a judge for a number of region competitions.

He graduated from Texas A&M University Kingsville with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education.  He has also performed with a number of ensembles which include the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra as the principle percussionist for three years, a number of ensembles with the Texas A&M University Kingsville percussion studio and the Texas All State Band.  He was a member of the Texas A&M University Kingsville drumline and was in the top band all four years of his college career.

He is currently a member of the Unified Percussion Ensemble which consists of percussion directors throughout the Rio Grande Valley.  The main purpose of this ensemble is simple, example through demonstration.  Their repertoire is based off, but not limited to, the UIL list.  They do this to provide an example as to what a certain ensemble is supporsed to sound like while at the same time educate to students the proper mindset a percussionist should have.  The Unified Percussion Ensemble performs at the Dy of Percussion which is hosted in the Rio Grande Valley.  Their most recent performance was at the 2012 TBA Convention.
