Aaron Ziegler

Dr. Aaron Ziegler is a percussionist, educator, and arranger based in Toledo, Ohio. Dr. Ziegler currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Music at the University of Toledo where he directs the newly formed Steel Band and teaches classes in Ethnomusicology, and Jazz History. He also maintains a private studio of concert percussion, marching percussion, and drum set students of all ages.

As a percussionist, drummer, and pannist, Dr. Ziegler has performed throughout the midwest including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the Iowa and Ohio days of percussion. He has also performed internationally at the Percussive Arts Society International Conference 2011 and 2013, the Inaugural International Panorama Competition in Trinidad & Tobago in 2015, and served as the percussion adjudicator for the 69th annual Hong Kong Schools Music Festival in Hong Kong, China in 2017.

Dr. Ziegler is an active proponent of contemporary music and cofounder of PRIZM Voice and Percussion Duo, a collaboration with soprano, Janet Brehm Ziegler, dedicated to expanding the repertoire for voice and percussion through commissioning new works by young composers. To date PRIZM has commissioned and premiered nine new works and has created a number of arrangements of existing pieces from jazz standards to traditional Argentinian folk songs. PRIZM also presents clinics on collaboration and contemporary music performance techniques. 

In addition to his active performing and teaching schedule, Dr. Ziegler is also a steel pan arranger and composer with his pieces published through Alfred Music, MauMau Music, and Tin Can Publishing. His arrangements are frequently featured in steel band concerts throughout the United States. Dr. Ziegler received his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance and Pedagogy with a secondary area in Ethnomusicology, as well as his Master of Arts from the University of Iowa, and his Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Toledo.
