Josh Torres
Center Grove High School
Director of Percussion
Josh Torres currently serves as the Director of
Percussion at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, IN. Josh earned his
Bachelor's Degree from University of North Texas in May 2003. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree
in Percussion Performance from Butler University with Jon Crabiel. His former teachers include Mark Ford,
Christopher Deane, Paul Rennick, and Dr. Robert Schietroma.
The Center Grove High School Band is a consistent ISSMA State Finalist, as well
as being a perennial BOA Regional and Grand National Finalist. In 2009, the
Center Grove High School Marching Band was named the BOA “Class AAA” Grand
National Champion. The Center Grove
Indoor Drumline is regarded as one of the top high school drumlines in the nation. Most recently, the ensemble was named the WGI
PSW Silver Medalists at the 2009 WGI World Championships and Bronze Medalists
at the 2011 WGI World Championships.
The Center Grove High School Percussion Ensemble has also
received several awards and honors including a performance at the 64th
Annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, IL in December 2010. In 2011, Center Grove won The Percussive Arts
Society’s Percussion Ensemble Competition and performed a Showcase Concert at
PASIC. The ensemble has also featured
guest artists including Gregg Bissonette, Kevin Bobo, Ignacio Berroa, Mark Ford,
and Michael Spiro. Many of Josh’s
students have received numerous awards and honors including All-Region,
All-Area, and All-State Band.
Josh is an active adjudicator, clinician, and arranger. Josh is currently a
member of the Percussion Staff for The Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps as a
Percussion and Music Consultant. In
2006, Josh had the opportunity to serve as the director of the Dallas Stars
Drumline in Dallas, TX. In 2012, he
served as the coordinator for the Super Bowl XLVI Drumline which performed the
National Anthem with Kelly Clarkson and the Halftime Show with Madonna to over
113 million viewers.
Josh is a member of PAS, IMEA, and MENC. He also serves as an Innovative Percussion
Artist, Pearl Educational Artist, Zildjian Artist, and a Remo Artist. In 2006,
he presented a clinic at The Texas Music Educator's Convention in San Antonio,
Texas. Josh has served as the President of Indiana Percussion Association, sat
on the Board of Directors for Indiana Music Educators Association, and currently
serves on the WGI Advisory Board. In
2012, Josh had the honor of being named Center Grove School Corporation’s “Teacher
of the Year.” Josh
currently resides in Indianapolis, IN with his wonderfully supportive wife
Audrey, head band director at Franklin Central High School, and their son
Cameron.
