Luke Davis

Currently, Luke is a doctoral candidate at the University of Illinois studying Jazz Performance and Music Education. In addition, Luke is the Percussion Director at Urbana High School in Urbana, Illinois where he instructs the marching drum line and front ensemble, teaches private lessons, and composes and arranges music for the Urbana Tiger Marching Band and concert percussion ensemble. Davis is also the Assistant Director of Marching Band at St. Joseph-Ogden High School in St. Joseph, Illinois where he instructs percussionists in the marching band, writes and arranges music for the percussion section, and serves as visual caption head of the Marching Spartans. Being from Dayton, Ohio, Luke began teaching percussion at Miamisburg High School in 2008 and instructed members of both the Viking Marching Band and winter percussion ensemble until 2011. 

In addition to actively teaching throughout central Illinois and the southwest Ohio, Luke has been developing his musicianship as percussionist working with outstanding faculty members at Miami University and Bowling Green State University prior to coming to the University of Illinois. With experiences in pursuing degrees in music history, ethnomusicology, anthropology, and Jazz, it is one of Luke’s primary goals to draw on his diverse musical experiences to help provide students with a wide array of ways to encounter and create music.
