Luke Thatcher has earned the M.M. in percussion performance from the University of Florida. He taught the steel bands and Percussion Methods class for Music Education majors. In addition, Mr. Thatcher taught private lessons to percussion minors. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

Before enrolling at the University of Florida, Mr. Thatcher performed with many prestigious musical ensembles. He marched with Micro Magic during the summer of 2001, and DCI group Magic of Orlando in 2002, taking home medals for Division II and for performing in the DCI Finals. In 2002, upon receiving a music scholarship from Rollins College, Mr. Thatcher had the opportunity to study with two renowned percussionists, Beth and Danny Gottlieb. Mr. Thatcher maintains that it was under their instruction that he truly grew into the musician he is today. During his time at Rollins, Mr. Thatcher was selected as a seasonal musician for Disney’s Magic Kingdom and held this position for three years. He also participated in the Central Florida Brass band. While playing with this ensemble, the group was invited to the international brass band competition in England (a first for the group), where they played side by side with the world’s best brass bands. He was also invited to study at the Leigh Howard Stevens 25th Annual Summer Marimba Seminar. There he studied with Leigh, She-e Wu, Michael Burritt, and Gordon Stout.

Currently, Mr. Thatcher plays percussion for Princess Cruise Lines and is also working on original compositions, recordings, and cover bands. He is also in his second year of his D.M.A. program at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada. He aspires to become a professor of percussion at an accredited university and to perform around the world representing various percussion companies. Mr. Thatcher endorses Innovative Percussion.
