Rick Drewry is currently the Front Ensemble Director for The
Woodlands High School (The Woodlands, TX) and a front ensemble instructor for
The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. Along with his marching affiliations, he is
a percussion specialist for both Conroe and Klein Independent School Districts
- educating a private studio of over 50 (...and growing) young percussionists!
He also recently and very proudly joined staff with the non-profit organization
"Let Them Drum."
Rick has a M.M. in Performance from the
University of Texas at Austin, studying under marimba virtuoso Dr. Thomas
Burritt and Prof. Tony Edwards, principle timpanist for the Austin Symphony
Orchestra, and performed with the studio in 2016 as one of the winning
ensembles for the Percussive Arts Society's (PAS) International Percussion
Ensemble Competition. While at the University of Texas, Rick had the immense
honor of performing under the baton of Prof. Jerry Junkin for a total for six
concert cycles as well as the 2017 College Band Directors National Conference
in 2017. Rick holds a B.M. in Music Education from the University of Tennessee
at Martin studying under Dr. Julie Hill - an educator for whom Rick holds
enormous admiration, reverence, and esteem.
Rick's marching experience
includes The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (2012-2014), performing with the
ensemble in 2013 for PAS's Marching Showcase Concert, and Music City Mystique
(2014). Prior to his current teaching positions, Rick has taught front ensemble
with The Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps (2017), Franklin High School (2015 -
2016), Lake Travis High School (2016), and The Clarksville Audio Theater
(2013). His greatest mentors (not previously mentioned) include Tim Hale, Rob
Pastor, Joe Roach, Alan Miller, Erik Johnson, and Dr. Nola Jones.
