Now in its sixth year, TorQ Percussion Seminar is an opportunity for college-level percussionists to come together for an intense but rewarding week of rehearsals, discussions, masterclasses, creation and performance, under the direction of the TorQ Percussion Quartet (Richard Burrows, Adam Campbell, Jamie Drake and Daniel Morphy). Operated this year in association with the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance in the beautiful and historic town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada (an UNESCO world heritage site), TPS2017 will culminate with a series of public performances as part of the festival. We're also excited to welcome a very special guest faculty member this year: renowned soloist and educator (and fellow Innovative Percussion artist) She-e Wu (Northwestern University). The core of the TPS experience is ensemble rehearsal. Each participant will be part of 3-4 ensemble pieces that will be thoroughly rehearsed throughout the week. Compositions performed will include the winners of this year’s TPS Composition Contest, as well as a mix of new and classic works for percussion ensemble by composers Dinuk Wijeratne, John Luther Adams, John Cage and others. Master classes and group discussions are also an integral part of the TPS experience. TPS2016 will feature multiple master classes with members of TorQ and She-e Wu, giving participants an opportunity to showcase either solo or pre-formed ensemble works. These masterclasses will be open to the public. Participants will also participate in group discussions about topics such as chamber music repertoire, self-promotion, concert logistics, and much more.
