Chad Floyd currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies at Campbellsville University in Kentucky. He earned his BME from Campbellsville University in 1999, a MM in percussion performance from Belmont University in 2001, a Masters in Educational Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University in 2006, and is currently working toward a DMA degree in percussion performance at the University of Kentucky where he studies under James Campbell.
Mr. Floyd has shared his interest and passion for developing new and innovative percussion ensembles with the founding of the Campbellsville University Steel Band in 2008, the Campbellsville University Percussion Chamber Group in 2007, the East Eighty Indoor Percussion Ensemble in 2006 (Co-Founder), the Lake Cumberland Drum Circle in 2004, and the Russell County High School Steel Band in 2003. Ensemble achievements include hosting internationally renowned artists and clinicians such as Andy Narell, James Campbell, and Jason Koontz, performing at the Kentucky Music Educators Association, and earning the Bronze Medal in the Independent A Class at the 2006 WGI Indoor Percussion World Finals.
As a performer, Mr. Floyd has had experience in many styles of music with several different groups including the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra, and Sacred Winds Ensemble. He served as drummer for the award winning band, Stoik Oak (Nashville’s Best Up and Coming Band and Nashville’s Third Best Musical Performing Arts Group, 2001 – Nashville Scene). He has performed at legendary venues including the Ryman Auditorium and Exit/In as well as four State Music Educators Conferences in Kentucky and Tennessee. In addition, he has performed as timpanist along side Crystal Gale, performed as percussionist along side the Nashville Ballet, and has served as drummer for Sojourn Fare, a group comprised of former-members of the Grammy-nominated group, True Vibe. As a soloist, Floyd has performed percussion recitals on college campuses in Kentucky and Tennessee.
Mr. Floyd currently serves as an active performer, clinician, guest conductor, and KMEA adjudicator. He is an active member of the National Association of Music Education, Kentucky Music Educators Association, and the Percussive Arts Society.
