Sean HarrisO'Fallon Township High School
Sean Harris earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Percussion from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1998 and earned his Master’s Degree in Conducting from the University of Iowa in 2004.
Sean's teaching experience includes 20 years of teaching and working with students and Directors from about 20 different states at the National Smith Walbridge Band Clinics now based out of Eastern Illinois University. Every summer at SWC, Sean provides instruction to High School students College students, and Band Directors on Marching Band Pedagogy and Techniques and Percussion Pedagogy and techniques.
Sean served as the Assistant Band Director and District Percussion Director at Madison Central High School in Madison, Mississippi from 2004-2007. During his time at Madison, several of his students and ensembles earned numerous awards including a Mississippi Indoor Association Championship in 2005. In 2007, the Madison Central Indoor Percussion Ensemble competed at the WGI Word Championships for the first time in the school’s history and landed a 4th Place finish in PSA Finals. Under his direction, Sean’s District Percussion Ensembles were the featured High School Percussion Ensembles at the Mississippi Day of Percussion in 2005 and 2007. Sean also served as the Percussion representative and Co-Founder of the Mississippi Indoor Association.
Currently, Sean is going into his 4th year as the Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion Director at O'Fallon Township High School in O'Fallon, Illinois. At O’Fallon, Sean conducts the Symphonic Band, is the Assistant Director for the OTHS Wind Ensemble, Freshman Band, directs 3 Percussion Ensembles, is the ‘Indoor’ Coordinator and serves as the Visual Coordinator for the Marching Panthers. Under Sean’s direction, the Marching Band has been a finalist at the St. Louis BOA Super Regional in 2007 and the Louisville BOA Regional in 2009. The Wind Ensemble was a featured Clinical Ensemble in 2009 for the Illinois Music Educator’s Conference and performed at the University of Illinois Superstate Festival at the University of Illinois in 2010.
In 2009, Sean founded ‘Freedom Percussion’ and currently serves as its Executive Director. This is WGI’s newest Independent World Class Indoor Percussion Ensemble.
Sean is also an Educator / Artist for Innovative Percussion.
