Andrew BlairColts Drum & Bugle Corps, and Maiden High School
Andrew Blair, a native of Liberty, North Carolina graduated with a degree in Music Education, with honors, from Western Carolina University in 2010, completing his student teaching at Kennesaw Mountain High School with Director David Starnes. While at Western, he performed with the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Artist-In-Residency Orchestra, and the Asheville Symphony Strings. Mr. Blair was also a member of the Sudler Trophy winning WCU “Pride of the Mountains” Marching Band, where he played snare drum from 2006-2009, acting as Snare Section leader and Drumline Captain. Mr. Blair’s principal teachers at WCU were Dr. Mario Gaetano (orchestral percussion), Matt Henley (marching percussion), and Byron Hedgepeth (drumset/world percussion). Performance credits also include the NC Music Educators Association State Convention and the NC Percussive Arts Society as both a soloist and ensemble player.
Mr. Blair was also a member of the 2009 class of the Leigh Howard Stevens Summer Marimba Seminar where Mr. Blair As an educator, Mr. Blair has worked with many groups such as Kennesaw Mountain High School, Lassiter High School, the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band, the Music for All/Bands of America Summer Symposium, and the Western Carolina University Summer Symposium, just to name a few. Mr. Blair also maintains a private studio that is made up of middle and high school students.
Mr. Blair is a member of PAS, MENC, and NCMEA.
Mr. Blair’s future plans include serving on the instructional staff of the 2010 Colts Drum and Bugle Corps alongside Max Mullinix, and becoming a band director in North Carolina, satisfying his obligation as a NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship recipient.
