Kim Long is a Music Teacher and the Assistant Band Director at Westminster High School where he works with the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Drumline, Jazz Band and Steel Drum Band. He writes and arranges music for all of these ensembles. He also teaches special education students music in a percussion ensemble.

During his time at WHS, the WHS Entertainment Unit is been an SCJA California State Band Championships Finalist in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015. WHS has also hosted the SCJA CSBC in 2014 and 2015. Kim Long has also conducted the WHS Symphonic Band at SCSBOA Festivals in 2014 and 2016.

At Westminster HS, Kim Long works closely with the WHS Drumline as an instructor and designer. He specializes in mallet percussion and focuses on developing musicians in the Front Ensemble. In 2013, Kim Long revitalized the WHS Drumline when he designed his first Winter Drumline show. During that season, he lead the WHS Drumline to a 3rd place Bronze Medal at the ADLA 2013 Championship Finals in the Scholastic Open Division. The WHS Drumline has been an ADLA Championship Finalist in 2013, 2014, and 2015, receiving another Bronze Medal in Scholastic Open in 2015. In 2016, the WHS Drumline made their first appearance at SCPA Championship Finals.

In 2012, Kim Long graduated from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State University, Long Beach with Bachelors of Music in Percussion. At BCCM, he has performed with the World Percussion Group, Steel Drum Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and was also section leader for the Concert Band and Symphonic Band during his final year at BCCM.

In 2015, Kim Long earned a Single-Subject Teaching Credential in Music and a Masters of the Arts in Teaching from the University of California, Irvine School of Education. He completed his student teaching at Westminster HS under the supervision of Stan Steele. At UCI, he served as student representative for music and arts. During his student teaching, Kim Long also presented a talk about the National Core Arts Standards at a HBUHSD Staff Development Day.

Kim Long has also performed as percussionist with the True Brass Choir and Orange County Mormon Choral Organization in venues including the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall and the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. Outside of teaching and performing, Kim Long has also been a professional photographer for The Colburn School, Southwest Chamber Music, and CSULB, where he combined his love of music and photography.

Kim Long has studied with Dr. Dave Gerhart, Dr. Michael Carney, Lynn Vartan, Axel Clarke, Brad Dutz, and Randy Drake. He has also attended masterclasses by Pius Cheung, Fumito Nunoya, Naoko Takada, and Lynn Vartan. Kim Long proudly endorses Innovative Percussion.
