Alan Fear

Alan Fear has been an active teacher, arranger, consultant, and clinician with several Western Pennsylvania marching bands and percussion programs over the past decade. In addition to his work in the area, he has also taught or arranged for percussion programs in Maryland, New York, and Minnesota. He currently serves as a percussion instructor at Kiski Area High School, assistant band director and percussion coordinator at Trinity High School, arranger and percussion coordinator at Moon Area High School, battery co-coordinator for the North Allegheny Indoor Percussion Ensemble, percussion caption head and arranger for Blackhawk High School, and works with and arranges for the Mount Lebanon Marching Band Drum Line. Many of the groups that Alan has worked with have been perennial BOA Regional and Grand National finalists and semi finalists, WGI regional finalists, and class champions in the PIMBA marching band and TRWEA indoor circuits. The programs that Alan has worked with have performed all around the country including performances at the Music For All National Percussion Festival. In addition his groups have performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony and at a PAS day of percussion.

Alan is a graduate of the Duquesne University Mary Pappert School of Music with a B.S. in Music Therapy with an emphasis in percussion performance. He studied with Chris Allen of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Rolando Morales-Matos, Lenny Rogers, and Stanley Leonard. In 2001, Alan placed in the top ten at the DCI Individual and Ensemble snare drum competition while marching with Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps. He is presently finishing a teacher education certificate program at Carnegie Mellon University. Alan also serves as a music judge for the Pennsylvania Federation of Contest Adjudicators. He currently resides in Pittsburgh, PA and performs as much as possible around his busy teaching schedule.
