Andy Baldwin is currently the Percussion Instructor at Dordt University (Sioux Center, IA) and Northwestern College (Orange City, IA), as well as a freelance performer and music educator for the Northwest Iowa area. Andy graduated from the University of Utah’s School of Music with his Masters of Music in Percussion Performance in the Spring of 2018 under the instruction of Dr. Michael Sammons. Andy received his Bachelor of Music in Education from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL in 2012 under the instruction of Prof. Jamie Ryan and Terence Mayhue. Currently, Andy resides in Sioux Center, Iowa with his wife Dr. Mariah Baldwin and their two Siberian Huskies; Siri and Alaska.
Throughout his musical career, Andy has performed with a number of nationally renowned ensembles; including The Piano Guys, SO Percussion, The Utah Jazz Street Beats, Utah Chamber Artists, Olivet Nazarene University Percussion Ensemble, Salt Lake Symphony, Utah Women's Chorus, American West Symphony, Cinq Percussion, The Danville Symphony Orchestra, and Gentri: The Gentlemen Trio, to name a few.
Andy also served as the Principal Percussionist for the Utah Wind Ensemble as well as the Utah Philharmonia during his time at the University of Utah. His recording credits include the world premiere of David Maslanka’s Symphony No. 10 with the University of Utah Wind Ensemble under the direction of Scott Hagen, nationally televised recordings for ESPN, the ACC, and the SEC Network, 2017 Opening Ceremony for Young Living: Essential Oils International Convention, as well as various recordings with the Eastern Illinois University Wind Ensemble. A portion of Andy's musical output can be found in the album "America's Favorite Airplane Walking Destinations in America" as lead singer and keyboardist for the group Rival Points.
Andy has also instructed, conducted, performed with, and arranged for a number of ensembles at the collegiate level including the University of Utah Percussion Ensemble, University of Utah Drumline, the Olivet Nazarene University Percussion Ensemble Drumline & Front Ensemble, and the Eastern Illinois University Drumline.
Andy has also served in public education at the K-12 level for over 12 years. He served as the Director of Bands at Shelbyville HS and Moulton MS (Shelbyville, IL), paraprofessional at St. George MS (Bourbonnais, IL), Lehi Junior High and Skyridge HS (Lehi, UT). During Andy’s inaugural year at Skyridge High School and Lehi Junior High, the Skyridge Marching Band made their first appearance at Utah State Finals at the 2018 Bands of America Competition in St. George, UT. His students have also received superior and high ratings at Illinois and Utah State Solo and Ensemble Festivals as well as the Illinois and Utah State Band Festivals.
