Andrew Smit is the Director of Percussion for Lake Highlands High School in Richardson ISD. His responsibilities include coordinating the marching percussion program, 6th-12th grade concert percussion ensembles, and teaching beginning percussion classes at Merriman Park Elementary, Moss Haven Elementary, Lake Highlands Elementary, and White Rock Elementary.
Andrew holds a Bachelors degree in Music Education from Indiana University’s Jacob’s School of Music. While at IU, he studied with Kevin Bobo, Steve Houghton, John Tafoya, Michael Spiro, and performed with such ensembles as the IU Drumline, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Brazilian Ensemble, and the IU Afro-Cuban ensemble, who performed at the 2011 PASIC in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also performed with competitive ensembles including The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps from Rosemont, IL. While in college, Andrew worked with Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana, teaching their front ensemble. After graduating college, Andrew moved to Dallas, Texas where he currently resides.
As an educator, he has taught privately as well as coordinated the front ensemble at Rowlett High School in Garland, TX and Richardson High School in Richardson, TX.
Andrew’s professional affiliations include the Percussive Arts Society, Texas Music Educators Association, and Texas Bandmasters Association.
