Brian Hanner is an artist and percussionist whose musical career
spans very broad and varied performance, teaching and creative work. He is
currently a freelance artist in Tucson, Arizona.
Prior to relocation to
Arizona, Brian was Adjunct Percussion Instructor at Lee College in Baytown,
Texas and San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas. He also has a long career as
an educator at the secondary level, holding Assistant Band Director and Percussion
Specialist positions at La Porte High School in La Porte, Texas; Cypress Creek
High School in Houston, Texas; and Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas.
As a performing artist,
Brian has played with many symphony orchestras and chamber groups, including a
solo concerto performance with the Baytown Symphony Orchestra, and various
performances with the Trommel percussion group, artists in residence at Lone
Start College in Houston, Texas.
Brian earned a Bachelor of
Music degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, where he was a student of
Dr. Lawrence Kaptain, Drew Lang and Dr. Christopher Hanning. He also earned a
Master of Music degree in percussion performance from the University of North
Texas, where he was a student of Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, and Eugene
Migliaro Corporon.
Brian was an adjudicator
with the Texas Color Guard Circuit and was the newsletter editor for the Texas
Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society. Mr. Hanner is an endorser for
Pearl/Adams percussion and Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets.
In addition, Brian is a certified yoga teacher and a
long-time meditator. He recently finished a three year silent meditation
retreat.
