Brian Howerton is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada and has been teaching percussion for 20+ years in the Las Vegas Valley. While attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), he joined the Star of Nevada Marching Band and Indoor Percussion ensemble under the direction of Dr. Brian Mason. Soon after he found his passion for educating and arranging. 

Howerton has taught at several local high schools in Nevada over his 20 years teaching (Cheyenne, Foothill, Palo Verde, Spring Valley, and Las Vegas High School). He was also on the drum staff at The Academy Drum Corps in 2012 (Tenor Tech), and 2013 (Bass Tech) under Percussion Coordinator Ike Jackson.

Brian founded the Vegas Vanguard Percussion Theater in 2004 to provide students with the opportunity to march an indoor ensemble. Vegas Vanguard has medaled in the PIA Class at WGI World Championships in 2011 (Bronze), 2012 (Bronze), and 2013 (Silver). They are currently competing in the PIO class.

In 2006, Brian founded the Vegas Vanguard Entertainment Drumline (VVE) to perform at various events throughout Las Vegas, from conventions, parades, grand openings, and private events. Currently, VVE is performing weekly in the biggest nightclubs in the World with Hakkasan Group, performing with renowned DJs such as Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, and more.

He joined the staff at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Star of Nevada Marching Band in 2008 as the marching percussion instructor/arranger and is currently in his 11th season with the ensemble.

Brian is a proud endorser of Innovative Percussion, Pearl Drums, Remo, and Sabian Cymbals. He received his degree in Broadcast Communication and Criminal Justice in 2002 from UNLV.
