Brian York became the Band Director with Star City Schools in Star City, Arkansas in June of 2014. Prior to moving to Star City, he was the Band Director at Citrus High School (Inverness, FL) for 9 years, the Band Director/Performing Arts department chair at Pensacola High School (Pensacola, Fl) for 4 years, and the Band Director / General Music Teacher at Pensacola Catholic High School for 2 years. He was also the Adjunct Percussion Professor at the University of West Florida from 2000-2002.
Mr. York received his BA in Music Performance/Education from the University of West Florida in the spring of 2000 under the supervision of Professors Richard Glaze and Wayne Webster. He has also studied private percussion from Gary Werdeshime (Florida State University), Dr. John Wooten (University of Southern Mississippi), and Keith Connelly (drum set player with 70’s rock band 3 Dog Night). While in Pensacola, he performed with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, the Okaloosa Chamber Orchestra, the Pensacola Opera, and the Pensacola Little Theatre.
Mr. York has taught at band camps and has written music and percussion arrangments for many schools throughout Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. He is also an active member of MENC, FMEA, FBA, ABA, TBA, and PAS. He has also served as the Music Director at First Baptist Church in Inverness, FL.
Brian York is an endorser with Innovative Percussion, Jupiter Music, Mapex/Majestic Percussion, and Evans Drumheads. He currently resides in Star City with his wife Denise, and 3 children Sebastian, Taylor, and Spencer.
