Catherine Meunier is the first percussionist to win the
prestigious Prix d’Europe. Her debut CD Night Chill is acclaimed by critics: “Montreal percussionist
Catherine Meunier shines throughout” (The WholeNote). She has been a guest
soloist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional of Mexico, Orchestre symphonique de Sherbrooke, and Orchestre symphonique Longueuil. She is an active performer of
contemporary music, having premiered and recorded many works by Canadian
composers. As an orchestral percussionist, Catherine is Principal of the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières,
under Jacques Lacombe. She plays regularly with the Montreal Symphony
Orchestra, Orchestre des Grands ballets
Canadiens, and many others. Catherine teaches percussion at SUNY-Potsdam. She
completed her Doctorate degree at the Université de Montréal. She also holds degrees from the
Peabody, McGill University, and University of Sherbrooke. Her teachers include
Robert Van Sice, Serge Desgagnés, Andrei Malashenko, D’Arcy Gray, Pierre Béluse
and Mario Boivin.
