Charles Gardner is the Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director for Tolar ISD located in North
Central Texas. His responsibilities include coordinating the marching percussion program, 6th-12th grade percussion ensemble classes and teaching beginning and 7th grade percussion classes as well as directing the band at Tolar Junior High. In addition, Mr. Gardner serves as a percussion technician for the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps.

Mr. Gardner holds a Bachelors degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas. While at
UNT, he performed in numerous groups, including the Classical Percussion Ensemble, Steel Band, Green
Brigade Marching Band, and the 2011 UNT Indoor Drumline. In addition, he studied with world-renowned
percussion educators Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, Ed Smith, and Paul Rennick.

In the summer of 2009, Mr. Gardner performed as a member of the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps
show entitled “The Core of Temptation”. Under the direction of percussion caption head Omar Carmenates
and front ensemble technician, Andrew Beall, Boston Crusaders front ensemble won the DCI Individual
and Ensemble Contest, and the full corps placed 7th in DCI finals.

As an educator, he taught privately and worked with Argyle ISD, Lake Dallas ISD, and Denton ISD and
completed his student teaching with the Denton Guyer percussion program under the direction of Ellis
Hampton. He is also a reoccurring teacher at the UNT Drumline Camp held every summer at the University
of North Texas under the coordination of Mark Ford and Paul Rennick.

Mr. Gardner’s professional affiliations include the Percussive Arts Society, Texas Music Educators
Association, and Texas Bandmasters Association.
