Chris Harris has taught at Owasso High School in Owasso, Oklahoma since 2004. In June of 2014 he was named Director of Bands for Owasso Public Schools. He conducts the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band 2, teaches AP Music Theory and coordinates the PRIDE of Owasso Marching Band. Mr. Harris has been on staff of three BOA Grand National Finalist bands (Owasso, Broken Arrow, Union) and instructed Regional and Super Regional Champions at Owasso and Broken Arrow. His wind bands have earned 20 Oklahoma Secondary School Association Sweepstakes awards and 10 Jr. High Outstanding Achievement Awards. Under Harris’ baton the Owasso High School Symphonic Band (2nd band of 5) performed as an Oklahoma Music Educator’s Association Honor Band in 2006, 2010 and 2014. Chris was a guest conductor of the Owasso High School Wind Ensemble at the 2012 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. 

As a percussion specialist, Harris’ percussion ensemble performed at the 1995 PASIC Convention in Phoenix as winner of the High School Call-for-Tapes Competition. His Winter Percussion groups were WGI World Class Finalists in 1995 and 1997. Chris has also served as the PAS Chapter President for Oklahoma.

Harris graduated from the University of Oklahoma with Bachelor and Master degrees in Music Education in 1990 and 1992, respectively. He was a member of the Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps in 1988, and performed with the University of Oklahoma Percussion Ensemble at the 1990 PASIC Convention. Outside activities include performing lead steel pan for Something Steel, an island based cover band from Tulsa and coaching, officiating and playing soccer. Mr. Harris has been married to his wife Marti since 1996. His daughter Claire is a Sophomore percussionist in the Owasso Band Program.
