David Carbone

Associate Director of Bands/Director of Percussion Studies
Mr. David Carbone is Assocaite Director of Bands and Director of Percussion Studies at James W. Martin High School, a member school of the Arlington Independent School District in Arlington, Texas. Mr. Carbone's responsibilities at Martin include directing the percussion studio, conducting the Symphonic Band, as well as team teaching the Warrior Marching Band and combined wind classes. In addition to his duties at the high school, Mr. Carbone conducts 7th and 8th grade percussion masterclasses at Boles and Young Junior High Schools daily.
From August of 2006 to May of 2007, Mr. Carbone served as Interim Associate Director of Bands at the University of Texas Arlington, where he directed the UTA Marching Band, conducted the UTA Concert and University Bands, as well as taught several undergraduate music education courses. Prior to moving to Texas in July of 2006, Mr. Carbone served as a band director and music educator for 13 years in public schools in Ohio and Florida, most recently as the Head Director of Bands of the nationally acclaimed Bellbrook High School Marching Eagles and Instrumental Music Education Department in Bellbrook, Ohio from the summer of 2001 to June, 2006.
Mr. Carbone has 17 years experience in the drum corps activity, having performed with the DCI World Champion Star of Indiana (1991, 1992), Magic Drum and Bugle Corps (1990), and Suncoast Sound Drum and Bugle Corps (1987, 1989); as instructor for the Magic Drum and Bugle Corps (1994 thru 1997), as well as the percussion designer for the DCI World Finalist Boston Crusaders in 1999 and 2000. He remains active with Drum Corps International as an adjudicator, whom he has served since 2002. Other judging affiliations Mr. Carbone holds include Bands of America (BOA), Winterguard International (WGI), the Mideast Judges Association (MEJA), and the Central States Judges Association (CSJA). He also enjoys an active schedule as guest conductor, clinician, program coordinator, arranger, composer, and adjudicator throughout the United States.
During his tenure at Bellbrook High School, Mr. Carbone's ensembles received the highest accolades in both concert and marching venues. The Bellbrook HS Marching Eagles were the Bands of America Class AA National Champions in 2004, as well as National Champions in 2001 in Class A. The marching band was a consistent BOA regional Finalist and national Semifinalist each season under his direction and program coordination.
In addition, Mr. Carbone was the Director and co-music designer for the Bellbrook HS Indoor Percussion Ensemble - the 2006 WGI Dayton Regional PSO Champions, as well as the Scholastic Open Bronze Medalist at the 2006 Winterguard International World Percussion Championships.
The Wind Ensembles at Bellbrook received high praise and recognition during Mr. Carbone's tenure, most recently receiving an overall superior rating at the state level Ohio Music Educators Association adjudicated event in the spring of 2006. Previous to teaching in Ohio, Mr. Carbone resided in Florida. His concert bands at East Lake HS and Plantation HS received straight superior ratings at Florida Bandmasters Association district events 7 years in a row.
In May 2005, Mr. Carbone received international recognition as the cover feature of School Band and Orchestra (SBO) Magazine. In December of the same year, he was selected as the Ohio representative of SBO Magazine’s feature ’50 Directors Who Make a Difference’ (in the United States). In addition, his students over the years have nominated him for the annual ‘Who’s Who Among American Teachers’ 9 times.
Mr. Carbone received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Miami (FL) and a Master’s degree in Wind Band Conducting from the University of South Florida. He is a current member of the College Band Director’s Association as well as the Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Educators Association, and the Percussive Arts Society. He is also an artist and educational team member for Innovative Percussion, Inc.
Dave is happily married to his wife Carrie and enjoys chasing around his two loveable dogs – Zuzu and Bela.
