David Giddens currently serves as the Associate Director of Bands and Director of Percussion Studies for the Winston Churchill High School Band in San Antonio, Tx. In his role he oversees all aspects of the Marching and Concert program, coordinates activities with the Middle School feeder programs and conducts the Symphonic Band. 

Prior to this appointment Mr. Giddens held similar positions at William Brennan High School and Karen Wagner High School in San Antonio as well as Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia. In his early career Mr. Giddens was Percussion Specialist for the Ooltewah High School Band and the Cleveland High School Band. Collectively during that time both programs were Bands of America Regional Finalist 18 times and Grand National Semi Finalists 6 times.  

Mr. Giddens is very active in the Indoor Percussion and Colorguard community as a designer, teacher, percussion and colorguard judge and Unit Director. His groups have gone on to make finals at the Winterguard International World Championships 12 times in varying classes, including a World Class Championship in 1995 as a performer with the Atlanta Rhythm Machine. Over the years, Mr. Giddens has been on the instructional and design teams of finalist groups such as Music City Mystique, Velocity, Chattanooga Independent and Kennesaw Mountain High School. He currently serves as the Program Coordinator and Co-Founder of 5points Percussion from San Antonio, Tx. 5points premiered in 2015 and reached WGI Independent Open class Finalist status in their first season. 

Mr. Giddens has served on the Executive Board for the Southeastern Colorguard Circuit (2002-2006),the  Southern Association of Performing Arts (2007-2008) and the Texas Colorguard Circuit (2010-2015). He is a member of the Texas Colorguard Judges Association, the Gulfcoast Judges Association, the Percussive Arts Society, the Texas Bandmasters Association, the Texas Music Educators Association and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. 

Mr. Giddens has served on the Percussion and touring staff for The Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps in 2012-2014 and Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps in 1996-1997. Mr. Giddens performed with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps in the summers of 1991 and 1993. In 1994 performed with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps from Denver, CO

Mr. Giddens is a native of Fitzgerald, Georgia. He attended Jacksonville State University where he completed his undergraduate work as a scholarship recipient.  While at JSU he was a member of the nationally famed Marching Southerners Percussion Section and in 1995 and 1996 he served as the Marching Percussion Coordinator. His role involved arranging for the Marching Band Drumline, the PASIC competitive Drumline as well as the bands performance in the 1996 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In the summer of 2006 Mr. Giddens completed his graduate work and teaching certification at Lee University, where he studied Conducting with Dr. Stephen Plate and Arranging with Dr. David L. Holsinger.. 

Mr. Giddens is an Educational Artist for Innovative Percussion, The Pearl Drum Company and Adams Musical Instruments and REMO Drumheads. 

He resides in North San Antonio with his life partner in crime Svenja Fuhrig, their Pug Mikey, Cha-weenie Ruffie and precocious kitty’s Luke, Duke and Leah. He is an avid San Antonio Spurs basketball fan as well as any sport that the Florida Gators play. He also pulls vivaciously for ANY team that is playing the Dallas Cowboys.  In his sparse free time he can be found floating on a tube in the rivers of Texas, attending almost any type of live concert or sporting event and enjoying some delicious Texas Barbeque.
