Dr. David Glover is Chair of the Music Department and Assistant Professor of Percussion at Slippery Rock University, where he teaches applied lessons, percussion ensemble, jazz band, and the steel band (SRU Panorama). He received music degrees from The University of North Florida (B.A.E), The Florida State University (M.M. and M.M.E.), and the University of Texas at Austin (D.M.A.).
A drummer and percussionist since he was ten, Dr. Glover has garnered a wide range of musical influences from jazz and classical music, to rock and Afro-Caribbean styles. Dr. Glover has performed with a variety of talented artists including: Arturo Sandoval, Joe Williams, Phil Woods, Bob Brookmeyer, The Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestras, Peabo Bryson, Bill Watrous, Regis Philbin, Rick Margitza, Nancy Wilson, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Ivan Lins, The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Dave Liebman, The Mason Brothers, and Idina Menzel. He can be heard on recordings from: The Wash, Latin Attitude, Azucar, No Bad JuJu, The University of Texas Jazz Orchestra, the acoustic jazz quartet Odd Man Out (Viewpoint Records), The Three Rivers Jazz Orchestra (SeaBreeze Records) and Sheryl Bailey and the Three Rivers Jazz Orchestra (MCG Jazz) among others.
As an educator, Dr. Glover has given clinics, masterclasses, lectures, adjudications and performances at numerous regional, state, national and international conferences and conventions. He and his wife Kim (also a percussionist and educator) teach advanced high school percussionists out of their home studio. Dr. Glover’s students have gone on to District, Region and All-State honors, college and conservatory music programs, graduate music schools, performing and touring groups, as well as many becoming successful music educators and music therapists throughout the country.
Dr. Glover is a member of several professional organizations including, The Percussive Arts Society, Pi Kappa Lambda (National Music Honor Society), ASCAP, The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, The Jazz Education Network, and The National Association for Music Education. He has had articles published in Modern Drummer magazine, and has been the Pennsylvania Chapter President of the Percussive Arts Society since 2008.
Dr. Glover performs exclusively with SABIAN cymbals, Pearl/Adams drums and percussion, REMO drumheads, and Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets.
