David Smith is Professor of Percussion at Western Connecticut State University. He also holds the position of Principal Percussionist with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO). In addition to the NHSO, Mr. Smith has performed with several other orchestras and has given many solo percussion recitals throughout Connecticut and New York He has performed several World Premiers including two compositions by Milton Babbitt; “Beaten Paths” for Solo Marimba and “Homily” for solo snare drum at the Percussive Arts Society International Conference. He recorded a duo CD of music for Flute and Percussion (Dual Excursions) that was released in 2004 and has also recorded on CRI and Desto Records. He has performed with the Paul Whiteman Band with conductor Maurice Peress throughout the United States and Italy. Smith is a frequent clinician at music education conventions in Connecticut and New York State. In addition to endorsing Innovative Percussion products he is also a Zildjian Artist and a Yamaha Performing Artist.
