Drummer, percussionist, educator, and composer, Aaron Lack, has performed concerts
throughout North America and Europe since 1990. He has been living in the Austin, Texas
area since 2000. Lack's recording career began in 1995 on drums, but has expanded to
include his contributions on the steelpan, vibraphone, vocals, electric instruments, congas,
and other percussion instruments. As an educator, Lack has been teaching private lessons
and workshops since 1993 and has presented clinics on a wide range of percussion related
topics since 1995. Lack has worked as a sought after arranger and composer for various
mediums including percussion ensemble, steelband, films, and video games.
Lack has shared the concert stage with jazz greats such as Benny Green, Roy
Haynes, Chuck Israels, Alex Acuna, David Friedman, David Samuels, Ndugu Chancelor,
Terry Gibbs, Ken "Professor" Philmore, and Andy Narrell, as well as James Brown drumming
legends Jabo Starks and Clyde Stubblefield. Lack has performed on drums, steelpan,
vibraphone, congas and other percussion instruments with Robben Ford, John Primer, The
Robert Hohner Percussion Ensemble, The Ernie Durawa Trio, The David Palmer Quartet,
The Brannen Temple Quartet, Donna Hightower, AIME, Earl "Pool" Ball, The Midland(MI)
Symphony Orchestra, The Golden Arm Trio, Michael Shay, The Drew Smith Band, The
Invincible Czars, The Stingers ATX, Los Jazz Vatos, RokkaTone, and many more. Lack's jazz
festival appearances include the Montreaux/Detroit Jazz Festival, The Notre Dame Collegiate
Jazz Festival, The Grand Rapids Arts Festival, the Austin Jazz Festival, The Texas Jazz
Festival, The San Antonio Jazz Festival, and the University of Texas Jazz Festival. Lack is
currently performing with the The Organic Mechanics, The Aaron Lack Steelpan Ensemble,
Aaron Lack's Vibetet, The Monstas, and many other projects encompassing a broad range of
musical styles.
Aaron Lack received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Bachelor's Degree
in Music Composition from Central Michigan University in 2000. He continued with a Master's
Degree in Percussion Performance from The University of Texas in 2002. His work as a
clinician began in 1995 with The Robert Hohner Percussion Ensemble, presenting clinics
across North America with support from Yamaha Corporation, Latin Percussion, and Sabian
Cymbal Company. Lack has been an Adjunct Professor of Music at Concordia University
Texas since 2010 and currently teaches Drumset, Applied Music, and History of Jazz at the
Austin campus. He continues to be sought after for private and group instruction.
