Dr. Ben Shaheen is a versatile percussionist and educator in Columbus, OH. Ben currently serves as
Percussion Director at Worthington Kilbourne High School. In this role, he works with the percussion
section of the marching band which is competitive in the BOA, MSBA, and OMEA circuits. In 2022, he
founded the Worthington Kilbourne Percussion Ensemble. In their first year, the ensemble was selected
to perform on the Ohio State University Percussion Ensemble Festival Closing Concert. Ben branches out
to several schools in Columbus through his large studio of middle school and high school students from
schools like Worthington, Pickerington North High School, Dublin City Schools, and Bexley Local Schools.
Ben performs as the principal percussionist of the Worthington Chamber Orchestra and regularly subs
with the Newark Granville Symphony and Westerville Symphony Orchestra. He co-founded the violin and
percussion duo, Summit Ridge, in 2018 with his wife, Kelsey Shaheen. Together, they share their passion
of new music in innovative ways and experiences. He has appeared as a substitute percussionist with
Sympatico Percussion Group and is a founding member of the novelty ragtime group, LULU & Co. Ben
has a passion for music of West Africa and Cuba. He loves experiencing different cultures through music
and hopes to bring these cultures to his students. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts and Masters
degree in percussion performance from The Ohio State University in 2022 and 2019, respectively, and
his undergraduate degree in percussion performance from the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music
