Jason Sleppy
Mason Sity School
Jason Sleppy graduted from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2008 with a degree in music education and study in piano performance. In 2004, he performed in the snareline with the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps.
Upon graduation, Jason accepted a band director position in the Mason City School district in Mason, Ohio. His duties include assistant band director for Mason's seven middle school bands and director of four 7th grade beginning percussion classes, as well as coordinating all percussion activies for the district. Jason also serves as an assistant director and percussion director of the award winning William Mason Marching Band.
During the last 4 years the William Mason Band program has excelled in all areas. The William Mason Marching Band won a Bands of America Regional in 2010, was a Bands of America Grand Nationals Finalist in 2011, and was awarded the prestigious John Phillips Sousa Foundation Sudler Shield in 2011. The concert bands at the high school performed at Bands of America National Concert Band Festival in 2009, Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2010, and Orchestra Hall in Chicago in 2011. The concert program received the John Phillips Sousa Foundation's Sudler Flag of Honor in 2009, making William Mason one of the 14 high schools in the country to receive both the Sudler Flag and Sudler Shield. In 2012, the Mason Middle School Advanced Band was one of only two bands accepted to perform at the Ohio Music Education Association Preofessional Conference in 2013.
Over the last four years, the percussion program at Mason has grown to involve nearly 100 students in grades 6-12 and features spring concert percussion ensembles, winter ensembles both competitive and non-competitive, and fall marching ensemble. In 2011, the high school percussion presented its first percussion only concert in 5 years. In 2012, the middle school has seen the establistment of its first afterschool percussion ensemble, and in 2013 will see the establistment ites first winter drumline.
