Jon Butterworth is a Nashville-based freelance drummer and educator.
Born and raised in Cape Elizabeth, ME, Jon started playing drums at the young age of 3. He moved to Boston to attend college at Boston University and the Berklee College of Music, where he earned undergraduate degrees in Music Education and both Drum set and Classical Performance while studying with world-class teachers.
After college, Jon taught privately and at the collegiate level while playing in a variety of bands and as a session drummer around the Boston area for 6 years before moving to LA in 2014.
In LA, Jon found extensive work as a drummer and performer for touring acts, theme parks, pit bands, and corporate bands. After 5 years there, Jon was called to move to Nashville, where he currently resides and tours with artists, teaches drum set, percussion, worship arts, and the drumline at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Brentwood, TN , and builds Ableton Sessions for live shows.
Jon has shared the stage with artists including Sheppard, Sarah Reeves, Little Big Town, David Haywood (Lady A), the Nashville Celts (with members from U2 and Mumford and Sons), Danny G, Lana Scott of the Voice, Lime Cordiale, Abigail Osborn, Maggie Miles, and Sandra Bernhard, as well as 13 different musical theatre productions. Notable performance venues include the Novo theater, Colony theater, and Dolby theater in LA, Fenway park, Symphony Hall, and Agganis Arena in Boston, Madison Square Garden in NYC, and sold out shows at Tipitinas in New Orleans and the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville.
