Matthew James is a percussion educator, performer, arranger, and composer living in Goshen, Indiana. He is currently the percussion director for Goshen Community Schools, and a percussion educator for the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps.

Matthew graduated from Illinois State University in 2017 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education, and in 2019 with a Master’s in Percussion Performance. During his time at Illinois State University, he studied with Dr. David Collier and Dr. Benjamin Stiers.

His performance career includes a heavy background in marching percussion with membership in Green Thunder Percussion/Cavaliers Indoor Percussion (2011-2017), Legends Drum and Bugle Corps (2012) and the Phantom Regiment (2013-2016). Matthew has also

performed with the Elkhart Symphony Orchestra and the MIOpera.

The Goshen High School Bands and Percussion Ensemble have been consistent BOA Grand National Semi Finalists, as well as state finalists for marching band, indoor percussion, and concert band.
