A Proud founding member of the National Percussion
Fraternity, Mu Phi Sigma, Inc., J. D. Blair’s credo boils down to this: Groove
and praise to God. And, for forty plus years, that’s exactly what J. D. Blair
has done. His work reaches across all musical genres, which began in church.
Because he lived a large part of his life in the South, it was inevitable that
country music would eventually come calling – and it did. J. D. has played with
some of the biggest names in country music, including Wynonna Judd, Lyle
Lovett, Shelby Lynne, and one of the most renowned names in music history,
Shania Twain. Along with a host of video and worldwide TV appearances, J. D.
has received many awards for his accomplishments, including Drum! Magazine’s
2000 Country Drummer of the Year. He also has been awarded the Louis Armstrong
Jazz Award. Spring 2011 saw J. D. Blair and Victor Wooten out as a duo
promoting their 2 Minds, 1 Groove Tour in Europe. There were also dates joining
J. D. with Celtic sensation Natalie MacMaster. The Groove Regulator has
released a new project called "2012?". Vix Records, LLC is the home
of this project.
When not playing with Victor Wooten, J. D. is currently
working the next two years at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. The residency is
with Shania and her “Still The One” event.
