Jeffrey Irving is a freelance percussionist and timpanist in New York City, working regularly in the orchestral, theater and chamber music idioms. He performs frequently with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and on Broadway - currently Wicked, Les Misérables and Something Rotten! - and has a long history working with many other groups in and around NYC including the New York Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke's, American Symphony Orchestra, New York City Opera, Gotham Chamber Opera, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra and Springfield Symphony Orchestra, among others.
In addition to his orchestral and theater activities, Jeffrey is also an enthusiastic performer of contemporary solo and chamber music. Current and past chamber music engagements include counter)induction, Da Capo Chamber Players, Perspectives Ensemble, Newband, American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) and the Metropolitan Opera Chamber Ensemble. He has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, PBS, Albany Records, Verve, Naxos, New Focus Recordings and NY Philomusica.
Jeffrey is also a dedicated educator working primarily with highly talented and motivated high school percussionists. He has served on the faculty of Interlochen Arts Camp since 2011 and the Juilliard Summer Percussion Seminar since 2007. He also served as Instructor of Percussion and Director of Percussion Ensemble (sabbatical replacement) at Interlochen Arts Academy in 2011. His private students have continued on to some of the most prestigious conservatories and universities in the country including Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, University of Michigan, San Francisco Conservatory and others. Jeffrey is an alum of Interlochen Arts Academy and holds his Bachelor and Master of Music from The Juilliard School.
Aside from performing, Jeffrey is co-owner of New York Percussion Service, a percussion instrument rental company focused on providing instruments of the highest quality to the most discerning individuals and ensembles performing at venues in and around New York City.
