John Hinojosa
is in his twenty-third year of teaching. He started his career at Eisenhower
High School, in the Aldine ISD. He has now completed his twentieth year of
teaching in the Dickinson ISD and his thirteenth year as head band director at
McAdams Jr. High School. He attended Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi
and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin earning a Bachelor of
Music degree. While at UT, John was a member of the Wind Ensemble under the
direction of Dr. Thomas Lee. As a member of the Longhorn Band, he was the
drumline section leader. John is a FMM of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps
from Rosemont, Illinois. John studied percussion George Frock at UT and DCI
Hall of Fame’s “professor of percussion” James Campbell with the Cavaliers.
Currently, John is responsible for the overall junior high band program and
conducts the Honors Band at McAdams Jr. High School. He is also responsible for
teaching beginning percussion in the district, as well as assisting with the
drumline at Dickinson High School. The Dickinson High School drumline has won
many “outstanding drumline” awards throughout his tenure. His performing wind
and percussion ensembles have consistently received superior ratings at the
U.I.L. and festival performances. Many of
John’s students from his private lesson studio as well as band students have
been named to the All Region, Area and All State Bands and Orchestras. A number of his students who were named
Outstanding Soloists at the TSSEC as
well as one student who was named Outstanding Keyboard Soloist at the DCI
I&E while a member of the DCI World Champion Blue Devils. Several of John’s
most outstanding students are now teaching band, freelance percussion performers, and
university percussion instructors.
John
resides in League City, Texas, with his wife Denise along with their four-legged kids…Duke,
Dazy, Caryn , Sydney.
