John "Maddog" Maynard is currently the Director of Marching Percussion at Marysville High School in Marysville, OH. He has held this position since 1997. Since his time at Marysville, the percussion section has continually had great success, achieving more superior ratings in OMEA adjudicated events than he can recall as well as in every state finals that the band has attended in the past 15 years.
Prior to his tenure at Marysville, John has been the instructor/arranger at 6 different high schools that spanned 25 years. All told, Maddog has positively influenced literally hundreds of high school percussionists over a high school teaching period of 45 years.
Before his teaching time, John began his drum corps career in 1964 marching with the Ohio Golden Lancers. From there, he marched with the Angels of Ohio, Maumee Demons and the Pittsburgh Rockets. He was the percussion arranger/instructor for the Caballeros of Cleveland OH, Miami Valley Lancers, and the Patriots from Dunkirk NY. He's especially proud of consulting with the Devil Dogs Drum & Bugle Corps - A Marine Corps League sponsored youth activity in Pinellas Park, FL. John has also worked under the tutelage of Larry McCormick and Michael Kumer.
John believes in giving his students a well rounded education and understanding of rudimental drumming while always adjusting those approaches to current marching band styles - an approach that has served his students well for many years.
