Percussionist and educator, Joshua Bowman is Currently serving as Director of Percussion studies at Christopher Newport University, in Newport News Virginia. Joshua directs all percussion aspects within the department of music, including applied percussion, percussion ensemble, and serves as the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands. In addition to his teaching at Christopher Newport University he also directs the Indiana University Summer Percussion Academy and served on faculty for the 2015 Interlochen Summer Percussion Institute.
As a performing musician, Joshua served as the principal percussionist/timpanist for the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus Ohio, from 2007-2014. In addition to the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Joshua has performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and has served as a substitute percussionist with the Indianapolis Symphony and the Virginia Symphony Orchestras.
Joshua received a Bachelor’s degree in music from California State University, Fullerton studying under Todd Miller, Robert Slack and Steve Houghton, and graduate degrees from Indiana University studying under Anthony Cirone, Gerald Carlyss, Wilbur England, Steve Houghton, John Tafoya, and Kevin Bobo.
