Mac Purdy began in junior high and high school music programs progressing throughout his region and home state of KY. He furthered his pursuit of the rudimental aspects of percussion by joining Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps in 1994 and later moving to the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 1995. The Cavaliers were awarded a World Championship title and a High Percussion award, while Mac was a member of the 1995 and 1996 snare line. Purdy also participated in the DCI and PAS individual snare competitions during this time.
Purdy has arranged and taught percussion for numerous drum corps and high school music programs (ex. Blue Stars, Pioneer, Nite Express, Marion Cadets, McGavock High in TN, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, and Daviess Co. High in KY, Basic Academy, Arbor View, Las Vegas, and Foothill High schools in NV).
Mac most recently taught Arbor View HS drumline taking them to WGI world championships for the first time in school history. He was also the catalyst in taking Basic Academy High School to their schools first WGI regional and placing first in finals. Previous achievements include teaching at Foothill High School of Henderson, NV who earned two WGI Western Regional champs in Scholastic A class, and four Scholastic A Finalist WGI Finals appearances under Mac’s instruction.
Purdy also works in audio recording and sound design in the Las Vegas area. Purdy has studied percussion with Brian Mason, Brett Kuhn, Scott Kretzer, Mark Casey, and Jason Koontz. Mac holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and a Masters of Science in Entertainment Business.
Currently, Mac is the Music Director for Pinecrest Academy of Nevada - Cadence of Henderson, NV as well as the battery coordinator for the 3-time WGI Independent A class medalist Vegas Vanguard.
