Michael Pollock is a multi-faceted percussionist with
experience and proficiency in the many aspects of the percussion world. He is
also an arranger, instructor, clinician, conductor, and music educator. He has
performed in numerous ensembles including the Pan-American Steel Band, Johnson
County Landmark Jazz Ensemble, Nebraska Wind Symphony, Omaha Symphonic Chorus,
with rock musicians Daniel Christian, Mark Irvin, and Billy McGuigan, and much
much more. Michael performed regularly as one half of the Pollock/Dusdieker
Percussion duo from 2000-2004. Currently, Michael is director of the Omaha
Percussion Ensemble, plays percussion for the Omaha Community Playhouse,
performs with the Lincoln Symphony, leads/directs/performs/manages his own
modular jazz latin group, and regularly freelances around the Midwest. Michael
is a proud education artist for Innovative Percussion and adjunct professor of
music at Iowa Western College.
Michael is an avid music educator as well. From 2006-2011 he
served as director of bands at Papillion La Vista High School. He has
served as Percussion Instructor & Arranger for Cedar Rapids Prairie High
School, the University of Iowa, Millard North High School, and the University
of Nebraska-Omaha. He has been a clinician at the Concordia Day of Percussion,
Iowa All State Percussion Festival, Nebraska Day of Percussion, Iowa All State
Music Camp, and the Omaha Jazz Workshop to name a few. He has also served as a
member of the Iowa Arts Share program as a clinician/educator/performer where he
was responsible for promoting the arts across the state of Iowa. He was named
one of America’s 50 most influential instrumental directors in 2007 and was
named the Nebraska State Young Band Director of the Year in 2010. He has also
achieved National Board Teaching Certification, only the 4th music teacher in
Nebraska to do so. Michael has taught lessons privately for many years as
well. He has directed and conducted the Iowa City New Horizons Band, Linn-Mar
High School Wind Symphony, Clear Creek Amana Middle School Band, and the
University of Nebraska-Omaha Symphonic Wind Ensemble and University Band.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Iowa and a Masters of
Music from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
