Paul Deatherage
University of Kentucky, Centre College, DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra, Raleigh Dailey Trio
Paul Deatherage is the adjunct instructor for drumset at the University of Kentucky and the applied percussion instructor at Centre College. He is also on percussion staff for Lafayette High School, a twenty-time Kentucky State Marching Band Champion and a Sudler Flag of Honor recipient. In addition, he maintains a private teaching studio at Don Wilson Music in Lexington, Kentucky.
Paul has an active career as a freelance drummer. He currently holds the drumset chair for the DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra, the Raleigh Dailey Trio, the Osland/Dailey Jazztet, the Walnut Street Ramblers, the Ross Whitaker Trio, and Sound Foundry Jazz Quartet.
He is featured on CDs with artists such as Wycliffe Gordon & the DiMartino-Osland Jazz Orchestra, the Raleigh Dailey Trio, and the Osland-Dailey Jazztet.
Over the years Deatherage has had opportunities to share the stage with such noted artists as Joe Lovano, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Wycliffe Gordon, Jeff Coffin, Doc Severinsen, Bob Mintzer, Allen Vizzutti, Clay Jenkins, Arlo Guthrie, Jens Lindemann, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Howard Levy, Jim Snidero, Zach Brock, Mario Pavone, Dave Ballou, Denis DiBlasio, Greg Abate, Roberto Sion, Ellen Rowe, Al Hood, Ron McCurdy, Vince Dimartino, Dan Moore, Miles Osland, and Raleigh Dailey.
Paul attended Tennessee Technological University, where he studied with Joseph Rasmussen and Eric Willie, and completed his Bachelors Degree in Music Education in December 2005. While living in Cookeville, he also studied with Bill Bachman. Paul moved to Lexington in 2007 to study with James B. Campbell and John Willmarth while pursuing his Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance at the University of Kentucky. He completed his M.M. in May 2009.
