Richard Henson

Richard Henson is currently the Coordinator of Percussion Studies at Southern Adventist University where he teaches applied percussion lessons, world percussion lessons, percussion methods, and directs the percussion ensemble. Richard also teaches as an Adjunct Instructor of Percussion at Lee University and serves as a current member of the Percussive Arts Society World Percussion and Diversity Committees.
As an active performer and educator, Richard has made appearances as a solo recitalist and clinician, and has performed with diverse musical organizations across the Southeast United States. He has performed as percussionist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Macon Symphony Orchestra, Carrollton Symphony Orchestra, Sewanee Symphony Orchestra, Symphony of the Mountains, Chattanooga Choral Arts Society, East Tennessee Brass, Cleveland Jazz Quartet, Jamaica Me Happy, Classical Mystery Tour, and Blood, Sweat, & Tears. He has presented solo recitals at the University of South Alabama, Ouachita Baptist University, Valdosta State University, and the Amro Music Recital Hall. Henson has also appeared as a performer with the UT Martin Percussion Ensemble at the 2004 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) and the 2010 Tennessee Music Educators Association Conference (TMEA). Richard has presented percussion clinics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Campbellsville University, Furman University, University of Tennessee at Martin, University of Memphis, University of South Carolina, and Tennessee Tech University. 
Richard holds the Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from Lee University and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin. His primary teachers include Dr. Andy Harnsberger, Dr. Julie Hill, and Nancy Matheson.
