Travis Hattery was born and raised in Davenport, IA. He earned a B.S. degree from Iowa State University for Chemical Engineering and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Iowa State University.
Outside of his formal schooling, Travis has always been deeply involved in the marching arts. Since his first summer of high school, he has been either marching or teaching drum corps in some capacity. His performance experience includes The Colt Cadets Open Class Drum and Bugle Corps (Tenors 2008-2009, Drum Major 2010), The Colts Drum and Bugle Corps (Tenors 2011), The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (Tenors 2012, Tenor Section Leader 2013-2014), and Gateway Indoor Percussion (Tenors 2012-2013).
A fairly recent age-out of Drum Corps International, Travis spent the 2015 and 2016 pre-seasons as a battery music technician for The Govenaires (DCA), and the 2015 DCI season as a battery visual technician for The Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2016 he was the tenor technician for Gateway Indoor Percussion, as well as battery visual technician for The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. He also is one of several battery instructors for the Iowa State University drumline. Travis also had the pleasure of adjudicating the Percussion caption for Valleyfest, an Iowa high school state contest.
Travis is extremely proud to be taking the role as Executive Director for the inaugural season of Crossroads Percussion, an independent WGI Percussion unit based out of Des Moines, IA. Currently, XRP is the ONLY independent WGI Percussion unit active in Iowa, and Travis is thrilled to spread the influence of WGI into the Midwest.
